Designing RUGGEDrive into an embedded design is simple: First, pick a UFX memory token to use instead of a traditional USB flash drive. Second, select a receptacle to use instead of a standard USB connector.
PRO TIP: The UR receptacles (e.g., UR4210, UR4310, UR4410) are compatible with cables that plug into standard USB ports. The UFX development kits include a UR4210 receptacle and two USB cables.

Secure Data Transfer
For secure data transfer applications, the UFX RUGGEDrive™ memory token functions just like a USB flash drive, but has additional security features not found on consumer flash drives. The product's unique form-factor means that it won’t plug directly into a standard USB port, and its unique serial number can be used for user ID and for encrypting the onboard data. The products USB Vendor ID and Product ID can also be used for validating the drive.

How secure is a non-standard form factor?
In most data logging applications that utilize a UFX RUGGEDrive memory token, the embedded system will have a Datakey SlimLine receptacle. While plugged into this receptacle, the RUGGEDrive token communicates with the USB host processor via standard USB communications (USB 2.0 Hi-Speed). At some point, this logged data needs to get transferred to a PC. To adapt the proprietary shape of the UFX RUGGEDrive memory token so it will plug into a standard PC, a Datakey UFX PC adapter is used. There are two adapters to choose from (both plug into standard USB Type A ports).

The standard UFX PC adapter simply converts the proprietary form factor of the UFX RUGGEDrive memory token so it can plug into a standard USB Type A port. - UFX PC Adapter with USB Cable
If you have USB ports that are tightly packed, the standard UFX PC adapter may block an adjoining port. The UFX PC Adapter with USB Cable extends the adapter housing back away from the USB port.
