CryptoMemory® Secure EEPROM Storage

The Datakey CryptoMemory® line of portable memory devices utilize Microchip’s CryptoMemory® ICs and are offered in both the key and SlimLine™ token form factors.
Note: CryptoMemory is a mature product line. For new applications, see the CryptoAuthentication™ line.

Not Recommended for New Designs / Microchip has classified the CryptoMemory® ICs as "mature". While not EOL, we would recommend that new designs consider the newer CryptoAuthentication™ memory tokens.

CryptoMemory Security Features

CryptoMemory devices feature a variety of security features:

  • Mutual authentication between host and device
  • Encrypted communication across bus after authentication
  • Password-protected memory zones
  • Locking of memory zone after too many invalid passwords
  • Tamper protection circuits

Consider vending machines, parking meters, ticket machines or any other electronically-controlled device that collects cash. At some point, someone must collect that cash and hopefully transfer all of it to the proper facility. A secure memory device with a unique serial number can be used to gain access to the money. The microcontroller validates the serial number (and entered password/PIN/biometric data), but then also securely records on the token the amount money removed. When the deposit is made, the token is used to ensure the full amount is deposited.
