Aquatic Life: Compliance Data Logging when Cloud Connection Fails
Aquatic Life Ltd. manufactures the Aquahive smart, remote water quality monitoring platform that uses a host of sensors to monitor water quality for mine sites. This environmental compliance data is sent to the cloud where it can be accessed from anywhere for real-time analysis. Because there is always the risk of lost reception, this critical environmental data is logged locally to a DFX-IS RUGGEDrive memory token. Aquatic Life searched for a military-grade flash storage device and selected a Datakey RUGGEDrive solution that provided:
• SD Card Functionality (with SPI)
• -40C to +85C Industrial Temperature Operation
• A Rugged IP67-Rated Receptacle
Applications: Data Logging/Transfer and Firmware Updates
Market: Mining

Cryptographic Ignition Keys: Implementation Methodology and Guidance
This white paper explains the purpose and functionality of a Crypto-Ignition-Key, also known as a CIK. The white paper also discusses the benefits of using a CIK, including how a CIK can be used to increase the security of a communications device. It also provides detail on how to integrate a CIK into an embedded design.
The Datakey video compares the amount of force it takes to make a series of SD cards non-functional. Three different brands of SD cards are compared, SanDisk, Samsung and Delkin Devices. Then a Datakey DFX RUGGEDrive memory token is put through the same test. The DFX memory token is functionally equivalent to an SD card, it simply comes in the more robust form factor.
This is the PDF version of the tri-fold Datakey brochure that provides an overview of the Datakey line of rugged portable memory products.

Click to download the Datakey Series III Install Software Version 2.2 that is included with all Datakey Series III programmers, including the KeyLink III, SlimLink III, BarLink III, KSDLink III and Unitroller III programmers. This is the software (part number 180-0394-000 Rev. G) that comes on the USB flash drive and includes: Windows driver files, sample Windows applications and documentation. This software runs on Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11 and utilizes Microsoft's WinUSB driver. The previous version of the software used an older kernel-mode driver which could generate a Code 39 error when installing the driver on Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers with certain security features enabled. This latest version of the software resolves this issue.
Note: This download is not the SDK software that includes the source code and project files for the sample applications that is included with Datakey Series III development kits. That software is not available for download.

This product change notification (PCN) documents a change made to production equipment in ATEK Access Technologies' Brainerd, Minnesota manufacturing facility. As part of ATEK's commitment to investing in our manufacturing capabilities, we recently replaced one of our injection molding machines. This horizontal press is used to mold many of the housing components that are used in Datakey receptacles. This machine is also used to make many of the plastic components in our Plug memory token products. While the machine itself is brand new, the same tooling that has been used in the past will continue to be used with the new machine. Likewise, there will be no changes to the materials used to mold these products. In fact, there are no changes to the form, fit, or function of any of the products made on this machine. This PCN is simply a notification that a new machine is being used to make the parts listed on this PCN. See the PDF for full details.

Portable Memory Choices
This white paper examines the pros and cons of various portable memory options available to embedded system designers, including: consumer memory devices (e.g. USB flash drives and SD cards)--including "industrial" versions (e.g. industrial SD cards and CompactFlash cards), as well as OEM portable memory systems.
The purpose of this policy is to inform you about the types of information we gather when you visit our website, how we may use that information, whether we disclose it to anyone, and the choices you have regarding our use of the information.
The "Product Selection and Identifying Guide" provides a table showing all of the Datakey portable memory product families. For each family, the tables states the memory type (EEPROM, NOR Flash, NAND Flash, etc.), serial interface and available capacities. For each entry, the corresponding form factor is also identified.
Each Datakey portable memory device has molded-in codes that identify:
Product Family
Memory Capacity
Supported Voltages
Date of Manufacture
The guide identifies where to find the codes and shows what each code means.
The Read-Only DFX PC Adapter provides a convenient way to read data from DFX RUGGEDrive™ memory tokens using a PC, while preventing any writes/changes to the data on the tokens. The proprietary form factor of the DFX memory tokens, along with the read-only adapter, prevents accidental erasure or changes to the logged data.

The special SR4410EI panel-mount receptacle with SPI line driver circuitry is designed to work with SST, SSM, and SSX series of SPI-EEPROM memory tokens. The receptacle contains a line driver/buffer on the receptacle’s MISO line, providing extra drive for longer cable runs, allowing the receptacle to be remotely mounted from the host. The host design should incorporate matching line driver/buffers for the other signal lines.

The WiSe Wireless Platform produced by Stryker Endoscopy take video from an endoscopic camera and transmits it wirelessly across the operating room to high definition displays. Stryker needed a portable memory device to positively pair the video transmitter with the receiver monitor(s). They desired a portable memory solution that would:
• Be highly reliable and durable
• Be Stryker branded
• Have long-term product availability
Applications: Linking Wireless Medical Devices

The UFX PC Adapter provides a convenient way to read data from or write data to UFX RUGGEDrive™ memory tokens using a PC. The adapter plugs into USB type A ports. When a UFX token is then inserted, it appears to the computer as a USB Mass Storage device (i.e. a USB flash drive). No special drivers should be needed.
UFX memory tokens are OBSOLETE and replaced by UFX-I and UFX-IS RUGGEDrive tokens.
Datakey UFX memory tokens deliver USB flash drive functionality in a more robust and secure form factor than consumer flash drives. The tokens are available in capacities from 4 GB to 64 GB and utilize a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface. Each token contains a unique serial number which can be used for token identification or for encrypting on-board data.
Datakey UFX-I memory tokens deliver USB flash drive functionality in a more robust and secure form factor than consumer flash drives. As part of the Industrial RUGGEDrive line, UFX-I memory tokens are rated for operation from -40°C to +85°C. Each token contains a unique serial number which can be used for token identification or for encrypting on-board data. UFX-I tokens feature 3D TLC NAND flash, where UFX-IS tokens utilize 3D TLC NAND flash operating in pseudo-SLC mode.

Use Cases for CryptoAuthentication Memory Tokens White Paper
Datakey CryptoAuthentication portable memory tokens utilize Microchip ATSHA204A and ATECC608A CryptoAuthentication ICs. This white paper illustrates some of the applications/use cases for CryptoAuthentication memory tokens. The white paper explains at a high level, which features and functions of the ATSHA204A and ATECC608A (or ATECC608B) would be used for each use case.
This application note explains how interrupts can be used to detect when a Datakey CryptoAuthentication memory token has been inserted or removed, when used with the Microchip CryptoAuthentication starter kit and a Datakey CryptoAuthentication extension board.
WECO: System Cloning and Data Logging for Fruit/Vegetable Sorters

Wireless Coexistence: Pairing Wireless Medical Devices
The white paper, Wireless Coexistence: Pairing Wireless Medical Devices, examines the concept of wireless coexistence and provides four methods for intentionally linking or pairing two or more devices to prevent unintentional cross-talk. The method of using a removable, non-volatile memory device to transfer device ID information between transmitter and receiver is examined in detail, and a case study showing how Stryker Endoscopy utilized this method for the wireless transmission of high-definition video is also included.
